New York 14, Buffalo 17

Alright, the Bills did what they needed to do and ended up earning their first victory of the 2007 NFL season! Rookie Trent Edwards did a great job in his first start. He showed great poise and control, with an impressive 22 completions on 28 attempts for 234 yards. He added one interception and one touchdown to those numbers. The touchdown was to fellow rookie Michael Gaines in what ended up being the winning touchdown.

edwards01.jpgBoy that game felt great as a Bills fan. Lynch did a great job as usual and found the end zone once. Edwards showed the kind of composure that may just land him a starting position for the rest of the year. The defense was great, intercepting 2 of Chad Pennington’s passes. The second came in the fourth quarter during a drive that was eerily similar to Denver’s late game drive in week one that ended up with the game winning field goal for the Broncos. This time, Terrence McGee, who was back after missing a game with an injury, went up and intercepted a pass to seal the deal.

Lee Evans also finally got going. This was the game where he needed to get some catches, since it was his first game against a secondary outside of the top 5 defenses in the league. He had six catches for 72 yards and was thrown at in the end zone a couple times. Overall, it was just a great game by the Bills. It’s likely the beginning of a 1-game winning streak, but we’ll take it. This is the best way to start the 3-game, 4-week home stand. I won’t look to next week’s game just yet, it’s time to celebrate the Bills’ second place spot in the AFC East!
